OSTEOPATHY IN PREGNANCY
The body of a woman goes through several changes during pregnancy.11 As the pregnancy progresses, the weight gain, the widening of the pelvic bones and the increased lumbar curvature all contribute to pregnancy discomforts.12
Relaxin, a hormone that regulates collagen, softens the pelvic joint and ligaments in preparation for delivery. Unfortunately, this makes the body more vulnerable to strain and can result in pain. Osteopathic treatment may help the body to adapt and make the pregnancy much more comfortable.13, 14, 15
Please note that the research references below are pilot studies. There is a need for larger trials to confirm these findings.
