What Is Paediatric Osteopathy?

69.jpg

Paediatric osteopathy is a gentle, non-manipulative form of treatment designed specifically for newborns, infants and children.
It works by releasing tension and improving the body’s natural ability to self-regulate and adapt — supporting better sleep, digestion, feeding and overall wellbeing.

Cranial osteopathy, one of the key approaches used at IBCcare, involves a soft, precise touch applied to the baby’s head and body. This helps ease strains that may result from pregnancy, birth or growth, allowing the body to restore its own balance.

Osteopathy is based on the principle that the structure and function of the body are closely connected.
When balance is restored, the body can function more effectively and comfortably.

When Paediatric Osteopathy May Help

Many parents bring their children to an osteopath for support with a wide range of symptoms and developmental issues.
Osteopathic treatment may help with:

Discomfort or stiffness following birth

Feeding or latching difficulties

Digestive discomfort, wind or colic

Sleep disturbances or irritability

Head or neck tension (including preference to one side)

Postural concerns or asymmetry

Growth-related musculoskeletal tension

Support for relaxation and calmness

Every baby and child is unique. Osteopathic care is always gentle, non-invasive and tailored to the individual child’s needs.

The IBCcare Approach

At IBCcare, each appointment begins with a detailed case history — including information about pregnancy, birth, feeding, family health and environment.
This holistic assessment helps identify contributing factors and ensures the treatment is safe, gentle and effective.

Dr. Bramati combines her extensive paediatric experience with research-led insight, applying cranial and visceral osteopathic techniques when appropriate to restore comfort and balance.
Parents are also guided on supportive home care and follow-up where needed.

Research Supporting Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy has been explored in several pilot studies as a potential way to help ease discomfort and promote wellbeing in infants and children.
While more large-scale research is needed, early findings suggest that gentle manual techniques may contribute to improved relaxation, digestion and sleep.
